Hey Vickie...and everyone. Melanie gave me the book today and I read the first chapters. It sounded like we are doing the right thing with our long reading block in the AM, but need to focus on direct instruction time during our reading block. I am curious to see how this will help us in that area. Thanks for getting us started and getting the books to us. Have a great night.

ReplyDeleteI agree! I am excited to see how the book explains "direct instruction". It sounds like practice (while we do reading groups) is not "direct instruction". I am excited to see what ideas this book will give us on how "direct instruction" looks and how to structure our Title reading time.

ReplyDeleteI think that administrators and their focus has been the key factor in the success of these schools. I think it is interesting that we do so many of these things that have been mentioned in the book, but maybe just need to take the next big step to solidify the results each year with our own students. We are so close and I think the MAP testing will be a huge part of the missing piece of the puzzle to help the teachers and the students reach our goals for reading.
